This Japanese Government scholarship is intended for students who are currently undergraduates at a foreign (non-Japanese) university majoring in a Japanese language and/or culture-related field.
The deadline for submitting applications is 5:00 p.m. EST, Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

If your students are interested in studying at a Japanese university but this scholarship does not fit their situation or plans, they might instead be interested in learning more about our two other scholarships, the 2027 Research Students Scholarship or the 2027 Undergraduate Students Scholarship. Further information on these will be shared with you as soon as they are made available in principle in April 2026.

We will be holding an online information session for students interested in learning more about any of the three MEXT Scholarships mentioned above, including students who may not be eligible at the moment but who may be interested in the MEXT Scholarships in the long term.
