Professional Editing Services

Editing services are not provided to undergraduate students from any institution. Instead, undergraduates at Saint Mary's University have access to free one-on-one tutorials to develop academic literacy and writing skills.

Professional publishing & editing services

Saint Mary’s University’s Writing Centre offers professional editing, copyediting, indexing, and layout services for all written materials. Professional editors and copy editors are available to work with faculty, individuals, publishers, and journals to provide clean, clear prose, as well as cogent content.

We can also manage self-publication, including editing, layout, indexing, and printing.

We have assisted in the publication of book manuscripts, journal articles, manuals, as well as many other types of writing. Editors have many years experience in various fields, including business, science, arts, and professional writing and publishing.

This service is open to Saint Mary's University faculty and staff, as well as the public.

Fees

Short manuscripts are $10 per double-spaced, one-inch margin pages in 12-pt font.

For manuscripts longer than 100 pages, fees are negotiated.

For indexing, layout, or other publishing service rates, please contact brian.hotson@smu.ca.

Graduate students

Copyediting is available for graduate students only for the following:

  • Master’s or PhD theses
  • Capstone projects
  • Manuscripts for publication

Every student from any institution must obtain written permission and acknowledgement of the editing work from their thesis advisor prior to the beginning of work and provide this documentation to the writing centre. As well, notice is to be placed in Master’s or PhD theses and capstone projects that professional editing was completed (e.g., This thesis was professionally copyedited).

All graduate students at Saint Mary's University can schedule free tutoring consultations with our graduate writing tutors for support in their development, organization, and writing of graduate-level projects in any discipline. Tutors do not copy edit.

Fees

Short manuscripts are $8 per double-spaced, one-inch margin pages in 12-pt font.

For manuscripts longer than 100 pages, fees are negotiated.
