The Teaching Studio

The Studio for Teaching and Learning promotes and celebrates teaching excellence and encourages the scholarship of teaching and learning. We cultivate and support faculty and instructors with the goal of advancing university teaching practices.  We offer individual and departmental consultations, classroom observations, customized professional development workshops and resource materials for faculty, staff, and students.

Studio Sessions

You can request academic skill workshops to be delivered directly to your students in class.

For one-on-one customized training to upgrade technical skills, contact the Software & Application Support Centre at sas@smu.ca.

Understanding the professional development needs of the Saint Mary’s community is important. We support initiatives and training for faculty, students, and staff as requested by deans, department chairpersons, and the university administrators. Check out our events calendar to see which open sessions have already been scheduled, or browse our catalogue of sessions.

The Studio offers a wealth of programs, resources, and services to facilitate excellence in teaching and learning. These range from technical resources to workshops on teaching and learning topics, and networking opportunities for new professors. Contact us to be connected to an Educational Developer or Instructional Designer. We’ll help you navigate the teaching resources available.

Academic Communication

Academic Communication

Writing Centre & Academic Communications offers consultations, workshops, and other services for instructors at Saint Mary's University.

We’re also here to help you support your students. Refer them to the centre for free one-on-one tutorials to develop their writing and other academic skills. Book office hours in Burke 115 with a dedicated tutor, and invite students to come and work together on assignments. Or integrate writing instruction with your teaching using our online study guides.
