Beyond the Final Draft: Designing Writing Tasks That Still Show Learning

Generative AI has changed what a finished piece of writing can tell us about student learning. In this webinar for faculty, we'll use a real take-home writing assignment to explore how assessment can shift from relying mainly on the final product to making reading, inquiry, synthesis, revision, and responsible AI use more visible. The session begins with a short activity on what we most value in student writing, then works through a concrete redesign of an existing task for a context where AI is available. Participants will leave with practical ideas for supporting writing development, setting clearer expectations for AI use, and redesigning open writing tasks around process as well as product.
