Reading to Write + Pre-Writing and Drafting Writing Workshop

Academic writing requires filtering, analyzing, and integrating information from a variety of sources to support your ideas. In this session, we will apply critical thinking skills to efficiently collect and sort information and discuss how to formulate opinions based on critical analyses of texts. One of the hardest parts of the writing process is finding the direction of your paper and getting started. In this session, we will discuss the 40:20:40 rule, and take a step-by-step approach to workshop your paper. By the end of this session, you will have a near-complete essay outline and a deeper understanding of methods for creating research topics, thesis statements, understanding paragraph structure and function, and integrating evidence to support your claims.
