[Winter Program] Sapporo University (“SU”) Winter Program (February 12-22, 2025)

Sapporo University is offering a Winter Program in February 2025. Have a unique winter experience through learning Japanese language and culture in Sapporo City, the heart of Hokkaido, Japan!

 

The program welcomes students from Sapporo University’s partner schools around the world! The program will run with 12-20 participants (if fewer than 12 students apply, the program will be cancelled).

 

Duration

12-22 February 2025 (11days)

 

Program (Japanese) Level

This program is open to students who can read and write Hiragana and Katakana.

 

Contents of Program   

  • Japanese language classes : 90 min × 17 sessions (25.5 hours)

  • Japanese Salon Conversations or activity with students and/ or Japanese language volunteers : 90 min × 1 session

  • Japanese culture experience : 180 min. × 2 times

  • Off campus bus tour : 2 Days 1 Night 

 

Transfer credits:

Students may be able to earn credits to the extent that those credits are applicable to the program requirements of your SMU degree. Please meet with your academic advisor of your program (visit https://www.smu.ca/academics/academic-advising.html) to see if any of your remaining degree requirements can be completed at another university. If academic credits are earned, students are not assessed SMU tuition for the transfer credit hours.

Program Fee   

JPY 330,000 (approx. CAD$3050) payable to the host university.

 

This program fee includes tuition, textbooks, observation/experience fee, and accommodation (at Sapporo University Seminar House on campus, incl breakfast).

 

Not included in this fee are meals, airfare, insurance, transportation in Japan, daily expenses, and $100 SMU Study abroad admin fee.

University of Ulsan in Ulsan, Korea, is inviting Saint Mary’s students to participate in their Ulsan International Program.

UIP, the University of Ulsan’s 4-week International Summer Program, is designed for enthusiastic international students seeking to immerse themselves in the depth of Korean culture, history, society, business, and Korean language.

 

Course:

The UIP program consists of Korean studies (Korean politics, economy, etc.) taught in English as well as Korean language classes. The program also offers cultural experiential activities and field trips to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Korea.

 

Target group:

Undergraduate students in good academic standing who will have completed 1 year of Bachelor studies by the end of Winter 2024.

 

Fees and costs:

SMU students pay SMU tuition at SMU via the banner account. The amount of SMU tuition is determined based on the number of transfer credit hours earned from the program. The host university will not charge a separate tuition fee.

 

Students will pay US$500 for dormitory at University of Ulsan.

 

Students will also be responsible for meals, international/local travel, insurance, $100 study abroad admin fee and personal expenses.

Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU) offers students from partner universities with a 3-week program on intensive Japanese language and culture.

The 3-week program consists of Japanese language study, Japan Studies, Home Visit, Career Workshops, and field trips.

The Japanese language classes at three levels (Survival, Basic, and Pre-intermediate) are designed for those who have just started learning Japanese or want to accelerate their language study.

Target group:

Undergraduate students in good academic standing who will have completed 1 year of Bachelor studies by the end of Winter 2024.

Fees and costs:

SMU students pay SMU tuition at SMU via the banner account. The amount of SMU tuition is determined based on the number of transfer credit hours earned from the program.

Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada Post-Graduate Research Scholars Program

Committed to fostering the next generation of Asia Pacific researchers and analysts, the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada offers up to four Post-Graduate Research Fellowships.

Successful applicants will have a background in Asia-related research in any relevant field and will be based on excellence and fit with the Foundation’s four main research priorities: Understanding Asia Now; Advancing Sustainability; Promoting Trade, Investment and Innovation; Building Skills and Competencies.
