Government of Japan MEXT Scholarship Program

 

Every year, the Government of Japan, via the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), offers scholarships to foreign students who are interested in studying at a Japanese university. 

 

The Undergraduate Students Scholarship is intended for students born on or after April 2, 1999, and who’ve already completed or will have completed at least 12 years of education or a program the equivalent of Japanese Senior High School by March 2024. Please note that the deadline for submitting applications is Friday, May 26, 2023.

 

The Research Students Scholarship is intended for students who were born on or after April 2, 1989, and hold a bachelor’s degree, or the equivalent, in any subject. Please note that the deadline for submitting applications is Monday, May 15, 2023

[Summer Program] TMU Summer Program on Japanese & Japan Studies in 2023

Tokyo Metropolitan University is offering “TMU Summer Program on Japanese & Japan Studies in 2023” from July 4 to July 18, 2023.

The 2-week program consists of 42 hours of Japanese language study, and 13.5 hours of Japan Studies.  

Students will be evaluated according to class participation, oral presentation and quizzes.  

A certificate will be issued upon completion of the program.

July 4 (Tuesday) –July18 (Tuesday), 2023 

 

〇 Japanese Language Placement Test  

Students will be allocated to classes based on their Japanese language level according “SPOT90” test. 

Before applying the program, students will have to take “SPOT90” test with free of charge.

Jyväskylä Summer School offers you a unique academic and cultural journey that gives you the opportunity to challenge yourself and develop your skills in your field of interest. Jyväskylä Summer School, organized at the University of Jyväskylä this year for the 32nd time, offers courses for advanced Master’s students, PhD students and post-docs in various fields of natural sciences, mathematics and information technology. All courses are taught in English by distinguished researchers from all over the world. Thus, the programme provides students with an excellent opportunity to participate in a large number of courses and benefit from high-quality interdisciplinary teaching. To address current global challenges, the linkages between the global and the local are fundamentally important. Global citizenship education plays a critical role in this regard. It helps build skills and knowledge that are required to understand and play an active role in addressing complex global challenges in ways that inform change without (re)producing harmful practices. This webinar highlights provincial and regional councils’ work on global citizenship. Leaders in global citizenship education will share their projects and some of the promising practises they have integrated in their approaches to global citizenship. The webinar builds on ICN’s ongoing work on global citizenship.

Announcement from ACIC: ICN Public Engagement Training

Explore decolonial, anti-racist and feminist approaches to public engagement in this training offered in partnership with the Inter-Council Network (ICN). This training is based on findings and recommendations from ICN’s recent research project. The research provided space for introspection and aimed to:

  • highlight decolonial, anti-racist and feminist practices in public engagement from different locations with different actors;

  • curate tools and practices that can inform more ethical practices in our decolonial, anti-racist and feminist work;

  • and shape narratives and priorities in policy and practice spaces within the sector, hopefully contributing to transformative change..

Participants can expect to build a shared understanding on what anti-racism, feminism and decolonization looks like in practice; to gain an understanding of how to assess core power dynamics at the heart of public engagement activities; and to gain skills on how to adapt based on their audience and build in mechanisms to ensure equitable public engagement.

The training is broken down into two parts: one in-person workshop and a half day virtual session. All attendees are required to attend both the sessions, please note that even though this Eventbrite ticket is only for April 11, it will be assumed that you are attending both parts, and will be sent the Zoom details to login for the virtual training session as well. Organizations, networks and institutions working in the international cooperation sector in Atlantic Canada are invited to register.

The training will be facilitated by Ashley Copage. Ashley Copage (she/her) is a mother, educator, and student from Sipekne’katik First Nation in Nova Scotia. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Human Nutrition from MSVU and a Graduate Diploma in Curriculum Development from CBU, she is in her final year of a Master of Education in Creativity, Sustainability, and Innovation at CBU. [Summer Program] ESSCA Summer Programs 2023

Saint Mary’s partner university in France, ESSCA Ecole de Management, is offering the following summer programs in France and Hungary (https://www.essca.fr/en/international/summer-programme). These programs take place from mid-June to mid-July, and are intended for both undergraduate and graduate students in Marketing, Management, European Studies, Humanity, Society, and French culture.

 

  • Angers Summer Programme “French Culture and Identity in the Loire Valley”

This course, aimed at undergraduate students, is an intensive and in-depth introduction to French culture and history. The course is complemented by visits to some of France’s outstanding cultural heritage sites such as Castles of the Loire Valley, Cointreau distillery, bunkers of Pignerolle. The programme is taught entirely in English.

 

  • Paris Summer Programme “Luxury Brand Management” and “Cross- Cultural Management and Leadership”

The Paris Summer Program offers courses on the themes of luxury and management in one of the world’s most vibrant city. Designed for undergraduate business students, classes will be complemented by some visits to the Yves Saint Laurent museum, the Louvre or on a boat trip on the Seine. Instruction is in English.

 

  • Aix-en-Provence Summer Programme “Developing Sustainable Experience in Cultural Tourism in Provence”

This program offers students the experience of discovering the French Provence through courses on tourism and culture. Students may participate in a wine tasting or attend the Aix Festival, Arles Festival or Avignon Festival.

 

  • Angers-Strasbourg Summer Programme “European Studies with our Chair Jean Monnet”

This program, aimed at undergraduates, takes place the first two weeks in Angers, and the next two in Strasbourg. Students will also discover Paris for a week-end. The courses cover subjects related to the study of Europe.

 

  • Budapest Summer Programme “Business Management” and “International business and leadership”

The program, located in the dynamic capital of Budapest, is open to graduate business students and includes company visits and cultural tours throughout Hungary.

 

Costs

SMU tuition is payable at SMU for the transfer credit hours (i.e., SMU students will not be assessed additional tuition fees by the host university). Students will be also responsible for the organizational costs (incl housing in most cases) and a 50euro fee to the host university as well as for meals, international travel and personal expenses. Non-Canadian students may require a visa to enter the host country. 

 

How to apply

Interested students should submit the SMU Exchange Program application by March 15. Once selected, you will be directed to the host university’s application process for further steps.

An announcement from ACIC: Youth Opportunity- Professional Practice

ACIC (Atlantic Council for International Cooperation) Professional Practice Workshop invites post-secondary students in social justice and international cooperation (or similar fields) to participate in a knowledge and skill development workshop on March 4, 2023.

 

The workshop will provide an opportunity to learn important skills and knowledge related to practice in the international and global cooperation sectors.

 

The workshop will bridge the gap between knowledge and action by engaging students to foster skills, access resources, and build their knowledge around global issues, helping to build confidence to engage on these issues with their local communities.

 

In addition, students from Nova Scotia and across disciplines will come together for a day of co-learning and networking, including training and conversations related to personal profile building for employment, reducing harm in international cooperation, unique paths to employment, skills mapping, and more.

 

Why get involved: 

  • Engage with peers and experienced professionals working in international cooperation 

  • Learn about careers, locally and internationally, that contribute to better communities 

  • Combine theory and action to strengthen your understanding of praxis in relation to International Cooperation

Join us at the Paul O’Regan Hall at the Halifax Central Library to listen to African Nova Scotian musicians and explore photography as we connect with each other through some international cooperation- and sustainable development goals-themed networking.

An Empowered Youth: Catalyst for Future Global Economic Leadership Perspectives and A Way Forward

This year, Black Business and Professional Network (BBPN Inc.) New Brunswick is organizing this event in collaboration with the Atlantic Canada International Cooperation (ACIC) and the Government of Atlantic Canada (GAC) to empower youth in Atlantic Canada to make a difference in the world.

The event will bring together people in New Brunswick and across Atlantic Canada to learn about global issues, share their ideas and perspectives, and participate in workshops and activities to equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to make a positive impact. The focus will be on issues such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and sustainable development, and how young people can take action to address these challenges.

The event will feature keynote speakers and panel discussions with experts and practitioners in the field of international development -STEM, Entrepreneurship, Human Rights & Advocacy, Mental Health, Arts & Culture, and Media Communications, as well as opportunities for networking and collaboration with like-minded individuals and organizations.
