Using the Brightspace Quiz Question Generator
Generate Quiz Questions with the Brightspace Quiz Question Generator
Follow the steps below to generate questions in the question generator:
- Go to Quiz Generator — Studio for Teaching & Learning (smu.ca)
- Enter a Quiz Name.
- Click the Question Type Samples drop-down and select a Question Type>.
- Click Create to view a sample question. Refer to the Question Type document for how to properly format you questions
- Copy and paste your questions from a word document or type them in the box shown below.
- Once all your questions are entered into the box, click Generate Test Questions.
- Once the test questions are generated, click the Download Questions for Brightspace button.
- Save the .csv file to your computer. You can now import the questions into Brightspace.
Note: If the Test Generator fails, review the questions in red. It could mean the format is not correct or something is missing.
Importing Quiz Questions into Brightspace – Best Practices
Follow the steps below to import quiz questions into Brightspace:
- From your course page, click on Assessments, then select Quizzes.
- Click on the Question Library tab.

Click on New > Section. This will create a folder to store your questions.

Add a Section Title and select the following Settings as desired:
- Hide section Title from Learners (in quiz)
- Hide Section Test from Learners (in quiz)
- Shuffle questions in this section
- Click Save.

Add a Section Title and select the following Settings as desired:
- Click on the folder to open it.
- Click Import > Upload a File.
- Drag and drop the downloaded .csv file or browse your computer files and select the file, then click Import All.
- Your imported questions will now appear in the Question Library and you can now add them into your quiz.
Note: You can also import questions directly into the quiz. It is recommended that you save the questions in the Question Library as it will be easier to re-use these questions in the future.
